Our name comes from an industrious group of thirteen-year-olds. In 2023, this group of friends wanted to play in an AAU league, but they needed a parent to coach and sponsor them. The parent said he'd do it on three conditions - the kids pick the name, the colors of the team and they would collective lead the team. The players had a sleepover and debated the name and colors of the team till the wee hours. They landed on Riptide and the colors blue and white. Thus, Maine Riptide was born and it's philosophy create - the kids lead while the coaches guide.
Maine Riptide is here to serve the midcoast players and not the other way around. By being a non-profit we're able to provide lower cost points for families and be able to raise funds for scholarships. We don't want cost to be a barrier to participation.
The 2024 spring season we'll serve boys 3rd-11th graders.
The first season will be March of 2024. The games will be in Saco and Portland on Sautrday and Sunday. (3rd/4th will be in March and April to accommodate the local travel team schedule. The other teams will be in March.)
Practice will be once a week for and hour and half. Day, time and location to be set but practices will be in Brunswick.
Depending on how many players sign up will determine how the teams are created.
The cost will be $200 per a player. The cost will cover the costs of the tournaments and gym time.
